Bachuil Country House
Lismore is famous for its outstanding views and abundance of wild and bird life. Visitors to Lismore come largely to walk or cycle and enjoy the tranquillity of this blessed island. A warm and friendly welcome awaits you at Bachuil Country House on the Isle of Lismore. Bachuil Country House is a beautifully restored typical 18/19th Century Scottish family home which now offers visitors AA 4 star accommodation in 3 luxurious and comfortable en-suite bedrooms. Bachuil Country House is situated near the Cathedral Church of St Moluag, three miles from the North end of the Isle of Lismore. It is ideally situated for exploring this wonderful island and is only 20 minutes walk from two of our picturesque castles. You will arrive on one of the two ferries that serve the island. The ferry from Port Appin takes about 10 minutes and is a foot passenger ferry. The ‘cruise’ from Oban is a car ferry which takes about approximately 45 minutes. Although the Isle of Lismore is a relatively small island, being 11 miles long and only a mile wide, it offers an enormous amount to visitors. A great many of our guests come to either walk or cycle. The Isle of Lismore is perfect for this as this fertile island is gently undulating. We have a wealth of historical sites including Bronze Age Cairns, Iron Age Duns and two Medieval castles. Our award winning Heritage Museum and replica 19th century Cottar’s Cottage, fully restored, is very popular with its small cafe not far from our shop and post office. If you are interested in wildlife you will be thrilled with what you find here. The wildflowers are abundant, some 300 different types and 130 species of birds including golden eagles, sea eagles, buzzards, herons and skylarks. You may be lucky and see some of the otters that live around the shoreline. The views from the island across the water to the mountains of Argyll, Ardnamurchan and Mull are quite outstanding. Hamish Haswell-Smith in his best selling guide to Scottish Islands writes ‘For delightful walking country LISMORE is supreme’. He describes a walk at the south end as ‘one of the finest walks in Scotland and views that are unequalled anywhere’. Whilst there is no need to bring your car to the island if you are staying more than a day then it does make life a great deal easier. Information Bachuil Country House
