Claggan Farm House
Claggan Farmhouse is on the island of Islay. My sister and I have owned the house for 35 years and continue to use it for family holidays. It was almost completely rebuilt in 1977. The house stands in 1/4 of an acre of it's own ground, down a drive, beside a wood, surrounded by farmland. The house is visible from the road and is in a quiet area although not remote and has wonderful views of the sea. The village of bowmore is 3/4 of a mile away and has a hotel, an excellent Post Office/general store, petrol and diesel pumps and a hairdressers. The house sleeps 12 people comfortably. All the bedrooms are a good size and all but one have hand basins. There are 5 twin rooms, 1 double, with a Z bed and cot available. The house has 2 bathrooms and 1 shower room, each with its own hand basin and w.c. The sitting room is large with an open fire. The television has a video recorder and dvd. The kitchen is very well appointed with enough space to use as an eating area. The drying/utility room is big and efficient, has hot pipes and racks/hooks for drying clothes. Originally a cowbyre, there is now the added benefit of a playroom which has been incorporated into the house. Claggan Farmhouse benefits from electric central heating throughout (except in the playroom which is coin operated). All other electrical charges are included in the rent. There is a payphone available. This house is suitable for 2 families. The local Tourist Information Centre in Bowmore can provide information on Islay itself and can be contacted on 01496 810254 or be e mailing them on info@islay.visitscotland.com
